Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word format. If prepared using LaTeX please include all ancillary files, including figures as well as a complied pdf of the document.
  • Where available, DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Names and email addresses of all supervisors have been entered in the "Comments to Editor" box.

Author Guidelines

There is a single section to this journal that accepts research paper submissions from student researchers detailing results from final year projects.
We are aiming for a level of consistency across the submissions, but are aware that different disciplines have different conventions and styles. Please adhere to the guidelines given below.

Authors
Authors must be student members of the Society for Natural Sciences. It is expected that most papers will be single author papers, except where the project was a team effort. Please ensure that the names and contact details of any supervisors are entered into the "Comments to Editors".

Refereeing
The journal does not have a system of refereeing. Instead it requires that supervisors confirm that the work has done by the author, and that they as supoervisors confirm that the material may be published in this form.

Article length
The journal does not have a rigorous word limit for papers but it is expected that papers will be no more than six journal pages. This is a soft limit not a target; shorter submissions are welcome. Supplementary materials are not allowed and instead should be included as appendices to the main paper or links to locally curated content.

Format
All submissions should be in a two-column format. Text should be 12 pt font size. Both RSC and IOP provide suitable templates for layout. Microsoft Word and Open Office documents should have all figures and tables included (not linked). LATEX submissions must include all ancilliary files (.tex, .sty. bib, .bst, .cls, and figures) required for compliation, and a pdf of the compiled file.

Figures, tables, reaction schemes, equations etc.
If full-width figures or tables are required these should be either at the top or the bottom of the appropriate page. All figures and tables should be numbered and have a caption. Equations should also be numbered. Reaction schemes and molecular structures should be unambiguously numbered where appropriate.
The use of colour in figures is encouraged.

Referencing
Although Harvard style referencing (using a superscripted number in the text) is preferred, please use the referencing style which is most appropriate for your area of research. DOIs must be provided for all cited works, where available. All citations should be contained in a list at the end of the paper.

Access
The journal is open access and has no publication charges for authors. Material in the journal is published as CC-BY.
